Movember in the NHL

For those of you who don't know, Movember is a month-long fundraising event for men's cancer research. It is now a global campaign with a number of countries involved from North America to New Zealand. Movember encourages men to show their support by growing a moustache for the entire month of November. I imagine there are some pretty long and crazy-looking ones by November 30th. I first became aware of the event last year when a few Caps players participated and there are even more participants this year. The NHL in general is a big supporter of the 'Mo with players and staff from all over the league participating to help raise money with their facial hair.

I personally want to help shed more light on this fundraiser because I've always been a big supporter of fund-raising for cancer research in my community so I'd like to encourage everyone to do what they can to either donate or help spread the word. I'm planning to use the Caps Mobile Challenge to help me decide to whom and how much to donate. The Washington Capitals have a mobile challenge where each game, participants must choose one forward and one defenseman who will score either a goal, an assist or a plus and they get a point for each category. I'm planning to donate a certain amount for each point a Movember participant nets me when I choose them. Here's a list of NHL players (there may be more than what I found) from various teams who are participating this year, perhaps you would like to donate to one of your favorites!

  1. Great minds! I also wrote about Movember in last week's From the Rink column, but I focused on WHL teams taking part. It's kind of sweet to see some of these 16-20 year old youngsters trying to grow more than fuzz on their upper lips!

  2. Yeah, right. Like Matt Hendricks and John Erskine are going to score any goals to raise money...

  3. I'll take Parros for 100, Alex, under "Who is less likely to score than Erskine or Ott?"

Keep it clean people. No headshots, no slashing, nothing "Parros". We will hand out 10 minute majors and reserve the right to delete and block anyone channeling Claude LeMieux or behaving badly.
